SURPRISE package Nadroga claimed the third spot in the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants after upsetting the highly-fancied Labasa team 1-0 in the third and fourth place playoffs at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.
Joseph Elder scored the winner for the Stallions in the second spell.
The Labasa team failed to spark with Nadroga enjoying the support of the Ba fans on every attack.
Nadroga coach Joseph Nitya Nand said they regrouped well after the heartbreaking sudden death penalty shootout loss to Lautoka in the semi-final on Saturday.
He said they would maintain the team for the new National Football League season next month and the Inter District Competition in October.
"We were unfortunate to lose to Lautoka in the semi-final," Nand said.
"Our aim was to win the tournament but things did not go our way in the semi-final.
"We regrouped after the loss with some blackboard sessions.
"We told the boys that if we beat Labasa then it would be a very good thing.
"They had the big name players. This wonderful win has set the platform for the future.
"We will maintain these boys. There are more sponsors coming on board.
A training program will be designed for the boys to work on.
"We are happy with the performance of the boys as we build the combinations in two weeks. We got our one, four, four, one formation and concentrated on that while in camp.
"The boys responded well to the technical training.
"After a long time Nadroga has risen up. We will not let the team go down now. We are committed to take this team further up."
