ALIPATE Gonerogo Jr, sponsored by Satish Motor Mart Ltd, will make sure young people understand the side effects of alcohol and drugs in their lives during this year's Hibiscus Festival.
At 22, Mr Gonerogo knows how some youths get involved in criminal activities and violence as the result of substance abuse.
"I hope my message will reach a wide range of audience that we need to stop youths from abusing their health and life with drugs and alcohol," he said.
"I am grateful that God showed me the way because I was once addicted to these activities. It did not help me.
"I want to share this message with all the youths in Fiji today that there are other better things they can do in life and drugs is not a solution to their problems."
Originally from Naocobau in Ra, Mr Gonerogo said the Hibiscus Festival provided a platform for young people to voice their opinions on issues that affected them.
Mr Gonerogo said it was disheartening to witness youths resorting to criminal activities, abusing alcohol and drugs because of peer pressure.
The agriculture and fisheries student at FNU said he believed he would make a difference at this year's festival which ends on Saturday.
