THEY travelled all the way from Viti Levu and their presence at the Babasiga Ashram in Labasa brought joy to the ashram's senior residents yesterday.
Members of the Ladies Fellowship of the Valelevu Gospel Church in Nasinu visited the ashram with baskets of toiletries and pastries for the residents.
The group was accompanied by some young girls who shared jokes and stories with the residents.
The fellowship's Labasa team leader Kula Narukutabua said they decided to visit the ashram because they felt that most of the residents were neglected by their loved ones.
"We thank God for the lives of these residents and we know our visit here has brought another reason to smile for the residents," she said.
"We are not only visiting the residents but also our church members here in Labasa and Savusavu.
"This form of visit should be an ongoing practice by the community because it makes the residents feel loved and not disowned."
Mrs Narukutabua said the trip to Vanua Levu was worthwhile.
"This is for a worthy cause and we are happy to know that the residents enjoyed our company."
The residents were also treated to morning tea by the women.
