LOSING was not an option for the Ratu Kadavulevu School under-17 side at yesterday's Deans competition.
The Lodoni boys humiliated arch rival Lelean Memorial School 25-0 during their Deans U17 final at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.
Despite losing to Nadroga Navosa Provincial High School 7-8 in the quarter-finals, the Lodoni school technically proceeded to the semi-final after filing a protest. And the loss was a wake-up call for RKS.
LMS edged RKS during their Eastern zone final 6-3. However, the final was a different ball game altogether They edged Nasinu Secondary School 14-11 in the semi-finals before keeping LMS scoreless in the final.
Two converted tries to openside flanker Peni Yauvoli and Filipe Nasilasila and a penalty to flyhalf Lilo Veiseivalu gave RKS a commanding 17-0 lead at halftime.
Team trainer Waisea Narusa said it was a gallant effort from the boys.
"We want to thank God for this victory," he said.
"That loss in the quarter-final was a wake-up call for us. We came back in the semi-final and there was no looking back for us from there."
He said the players were challenged to give their best in the final.
"We told the boys if they cannot fight for Lodoni, then they should not wear the jersey.
"This motivated the boys and they went out there and delivered the goods."
In the second half, Veiseivalu added another penalty before replacement prop Apenisa Sokoicama touched down their third and final try of the day.
