MARIST Brothers High School won their first Deans under-19 rugby title after beating Ratu Kadavulevu School 22-20 in the final at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.
And it was Fiji under-20 rugby rep Akuila Tabualevu who was the hero for the side, kicking the winning conversion with seconds left on the clock. The Flagstaff boys bounced back after trailing 20-10 in the final quarter to drown RKS's hope.
Tabualevu combined well with North Queensland Cowboys recruit and inside centre Viliame Kikau to orchestrate their attacks. MBHS had not won the U19 title after more than two decades.
It was joy and celebration time for MBHS when they delivered the killer blow in the last quarter of the match. RKS defended tirelessly, however, indiscipline proved to be a costly factor.
MBHS scored two tries within the final quarter to take home the Deans U19 trophy.
