THE Fiji women's basketball team will play a match against a New York-based Division One college team next week Saturday in Lautoka.
The US women's college team, Fordham University Rams, will be in the country next week to conduct basketball clinics for children.
The national side will play the Fordham Rams in a one-off match on Saturday at the Lautoka multipurpose courts at 4pm.
Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said the match would help the national side's preparation for the FIBA Oceania Championship in New Zealand in November.
He said the players also had an opportunity to impress the touring coach and vie for a contract to play in the US College competition.
Yesterday, the national squad of 26 was trimmed to the final 15 following several trials in the Central and Western divisions.
Puamau thanked the West-based players for attending the trials.
"The team will feature Iowa Central Community College scholarship holder Miliakere Koyamainavure and Valerie Nainima who plays basketball on a professional level in Germany," he said.
"The team will be led by seasonal captain Dale Wise.
"Some of the new players who have forced their way into the team for the match include Disiola Boseiwaqa, Louchrisha Hussain and Mereani Tawake to name a few."
Puamau said the players were looking forward to gaining invaluable experience from playing against the visitors.
