A NINE-member contingent will represent Fiji at the 4th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships at the end of this month in Dubai.
The event, which will be held from August 26 to 31, is being hosted by the United Arab Emirates and is organised by the UAE Swimming Federation in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council.
Fiji Swimming secretary Pitila Thompson said the national side was made up of three boys and six girls with ages ranging from 14 to 17 years.
She said team members were the cream of their emerging young crop of swimmers who have surpassed the criteria set to be eligible to compete at the championships.
Thompson said the national side was gearing up to face stiff competition at the championship which will be held at the Hamdan Sports Complex.
"With the primary objective of the team to compete at the highest level, all the swimmers are aware that they have done the hard yards at training and are now raring to show the world that Fiji can produce swimmers of repute," Thompson said.
"… the challenge is to convince the swimmers that the championships are a culmination of their hard training.
"The competition at a world class event with swimmers of your peers and age group is the reward for all that training."
The team will be led by Epeli Rabua along with coach Sharon Smith and assistant team manager Lucy Erasito.
