THE Indian High Commission in Suva gave a bus worth about $136,000 to the Suva City Carnegie Library on Thursday.
The bus will be used as a mobile library for primary schools in the Suva area that do not have libraries.
Special administrator Chandu Umaria said knowledge was vital for Fiji's growth and it was important that children got the best while still in school.
"The donation is a milestone one. This bus will be equipped with library facilities and books which will be taken to primary schools," Mr Umaria said.
"Through this mobile library, we will be able to extend our services to communities struggling economically."
Mr Umaria said they would later introduce this service to senior citizens and those living with disabilities so they could access information while in the comfort of their own homes.
India's High Commissioner to Fiji Vinod Kumar said his government always supported Fiji in the area of education and would continue to do so.
Mr Umaria also presented a detailed account information to Mr Kumar showing how the money was utilised.
