HIBISCUS Queen hopeful Miss FBC Priscilla Reddy showed her credentials early by winning the Queen's Research Project contest yesterday.
The 16 contestants gave their presentations for the research project at FNU's Pasifika Campus yesterday and Ms Reddy came out shining.
Queens co-ordinator Ana Mataitoga explained that the contestants were given a research topic by the judges, and given a week to make the presentations and answer judges' questions.
"Of all the different events that happen during the week, this is the one that requires a lot of research," Ms Mataitoga said.
"They are not judged on the outlines they give to the judges, they are judged according to the content and how well they are able to answer the questions given to them after the presentation."
She said the queens' pageant too often became a beauty contest.
"Here, they are judged on IQ and their ability to answer and give realistic examples on the issues they are given," she added.
The festival will be officially opened today.
