POLICE are awaiting the LTA vehicle examiner's report regarding the Nasese bus incident on Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the statement of the bus driver and some witnesses had been recorded.
Ms Naisoro said the fire was believed to have started from the gear box where the driver noticed smoke was coming from while transporting students and parents of a kindergarten.
The Nasese bus was transporting students back from a field trip to Montfort Boys Town when the fire started in Samabula.
The preschoolers, who attend St Pius Preschool in Raiwaqa, were helped off the bus by their guardians, the bus driver and some bystanders.
Ms Naisoro said police investigations were continuing.
The LTA ordered about 65 buses belonging to the Nasese Buses Ltd off the road to allow for an audit of its fleet.
