AIRPORTS Fiji Limited is certified to provide air navigation services such as search and rescue and to oversee and maintain airports on behalf of the State.
The certification for Air Traffic Service Provider from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji — in alignment with the International Civil Aviation Authority — also covers aeronautical information services, and providing the connection to meteorological services.
The certification was handed to AFL acting CEO Naushad Ali in Nadi on Wednesday.
As well, the other certifications the AFL received were the Aeronautical Information Service Certificate, Aviation Training Institute Certificate and the Aeronautical Maintenance Organisation Certificate.
Explaining the significance of the awards, CAAF ground safety controller and acting general manager Isei Tudreu said the certifications meant that AFL had been mandated to provide air navigation services for Fiji.
"This morning is very historical because Airports Fiji Limited has now gotten the certification with our regulations from CAAF in alignment with the International Civil Aviation Authority, meaning they are now certified to provide those services.
"So, AFL's Vula Seru as general manager of air traffic services is now certified to conduct activities pertaining to air traffic services.
"Also services from the air traffic institutions and the aeronautical services on behalf of the State."
The certificates were presented during the CAAF State of Action Plan workshop in Nadi.
