ELIZABETH Grace's passion for art and design made her the winner of this year's Crest Chicken Salwaar Kameez fashion show at Suva's Civic Centre yesterday.

The 22-year-old lass from Lautoka could not believe her luck when her design was selected the winner of the Salwaar Kameez prize out of 47 designers who participated.

Ms Grace said her passion for art and design had always motivated her to be a designer.

"My salwaar kameez is a mix of modern and traditional fashion," Ms Grace said.

"As people could see on my outfit, it had turtles all over it because I wanted to remind people that turtles are important species that we need to protect."

She said she would participate in next year's competition and encouraged young designers to be creative in what they do.

"I saw the advertisement in the newspaper and it took me a couple of months to actually do the stretches and put the outfit together with the help from my mum.

"I am really into fashion and coming up with something groovy and comfortable was quite easy."
