Lau retreat for Qarase

Update: 5:59PM FIJI'S former prime minister plans to travel to his village in Mavana, Lau, with his family to rest after he was released from prison this afternoon.

I have served my sentence so that is the end of this particular charge against me," he said.

Mr Qarase was released after serving eight months of his 12-month jail term for an abuse of office-related charge. 

"I am glad to be out and I now have gone past prison. My priority now is to really focus ahead and then determine what I need to do next."

He is now awaiting the judgment of his appeal which will be known later this month.
