POLICE are investigating a fire that completely destroyed a virgin oil processing centre in Vuna Village on Taveuni.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the incident happened at 6pm on Wednesday.

"The Origin Pacific Limited-owned centre was being managed by a 61-year-old Vuna villager when the fire occurred.

"The fire is believed to have started from the bulk storage area," he said.

Insp Sokomuri said estimated cost of damage was $120,000.

He said the bulk was not insured.

Divisional Police Commander Northern Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Fulori Rainibogi said police officers on Taveuni were carrying out investigations to determine the cause of fire.

"National Fire Authority personnel are also assisting our men in the investigations," she said.
