DEFENDING champions New Zealand remains on track to retain the OFC U20 title after beating Vanuatu 1-0 at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.
The Kiwi's made a few changes to the starting line that thrashed Papua New Guinea 5-0 on Thursday and seemed to be a bit casual against the Vanuatu team.
Team Wellington Youth striker Van Elia scored the lone goal in the 23rd minute.
Vanuatu dominated the second spell with captain Jean Kaltack missing from close range in the 60th minute. Kaltack went clear inside the New Zealand box and had only goalkeeper Max Crocombe to beat but his shot struck the goalkeeper's boot.
Crocombe was in action again in the 82nd minute saving Bill Nicholls attempt.
New Zealand coach Chris Milicich said they did just enough to earn maximum points.
Vanuatu coach Moise Poida said luck evaded his side.
He said they outplayed New Zealand.
