Uluiyasi Lawavonu repulsed the nuggety Canadians 26-5 in their pool game.
Digicel Fiji coach Alivereti Dere said they had to work
harder in the quarter-final against Australia today.
"It is good we won
against Canada but we need to work harder," Dere said.
"The boys have been
motivated by the presence of Waisale Serevi and we are taking things one at a
time. Our first game we started on a low note.
"Our defence it is a bit
organised but we need to tighten it up again.
"We will go back to camp and talk about our game. For this game against Canada, we want to set the
platform for the quarter-final."
Samoa faces New Zealand, Portugal takes on Kenya and Canada meets Wales in the other quarter-finals.
