IT is back to the drawing board for Papua New Guinea after suffering a first round defeat to New Zealand during the OFC U20 play-offs.
PNG is on a bye today and will take on Vanuatu in their second match on Monday.
Coach Wesley Waiwai said they needed to improve their defence which was exposed by the Kiwis.
He said they had to also sharpen their attack.
"We did not get a positive result in our first game," Waiwai said.
"Now have to reflect on the things that went wrong. We need to improve in our defensive shape. The mid-fielders will need to lift themselves in a bid to combine with the defenders and the strikers to be more effective upfront."
PNG goalkeeper Charles Lepani turned heads during the first game making numerous fine saves.
