THE Loloma Foundation & Iliesa Delana Foundation Medical Initiative is urging members of the public in Taveuni to take advantage of the free surgery that will be held by their surgery team on the island.

Iliesa Delana Foundation founder Julie Alexander said work on the island had been scheduled for April 16 to 30.

Ms Alexander said they were working closely with the Loloma Foundation in providing free surgery for the people of Taveuni.

"Our team consists of medical surgeons, including an optometry team who will perform vision and eye medical treatment free of charge," Ms Alexander said.

"The team will also identify candidates for eye surgery and cataract surgery.

"Traveling with the surgery team are Dr Lance Hendrix and returning physician Mike Limberg, his assistant Chris DeBartolo, and Tom and Sharon Rippner as the optometric team."

Ms Alexander said the surgery was free and open to Fijian citizens.

"Our schedule for the first week of April is purely medical team where we will be working in various areas around Taveuni.

"Between the 16th and 23rd of April, our maxillofacial surgeon will be performing cleft lip and palate repairs along with facial and oral surgeries.

"From the 23rd to the 30th of April, our general surgeon will be operating on cases such as hernias, lipomas, wound repairs, etcetera."

Ms Alexander said people on the island should make use of the opportunity and attend the check-ups to know their health status.
