Bad roads disrupt travel

RESIDENTS along the Tabucola area outside Labasa are complaining about the poor road conditions which has made it hard for them to travel around the area and even to and from Labasa.

Tabucola Valibar Sangam School manager Kamlesh Reddy said as of yesterday, the road to the area was closed to all vehicles because of its deteriorating condition.

Mr Reddy said he had lodged a complaint with the Fiji Roads Authority but so far nothing had been done.

"We are worried about the welfare of our children and workers keeping in mind that we continue to face adverse weather conditions here in the north. The road conditions in Tabucola have gone worse that very soon, we have to start using horses as a means of transportation since walking on the road is risky and dangerous," he said.

Fiji Roads Authority network maintenance officer Adam Jackson said FRA was aware of the faults on this road and programmed repairs had commenced.

Mr Jackson said buses had started servicing the mentioned bus route from yesterday.

"The FRA maintenance contractor is on site and is expected to complete all remaining work by Tuesday next week," he said.
