A 20-YEAR-OLD woman of Savusavu is the latest drowning victim in the country.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the deceased was an epileptic and drowned while accompanying her mother fishing out at sea.
Insp Sokomuri said she was taken to Natewa Health Centre but was pronounced dead on arrival.
"The body was later transferred to Savusavu Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death," he said.
Insp Sokomuri said the drowning toll stood at 17 which was the same for this period last year.
Meanwhile, police are again warning members of the public to learn to share their problems and not take drastic measures by committing suicide.
The warning comes after a 43-year-old farmer of Bocalevu outside Labasa attempted to commit suicide.
Divisional police commander North Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Fulori Rainibogi has confirmed the incident took place on Wednesday this week and that the victim was in a stable condition at the Labasa Hospital.
