Lack of commitment changes constitution process

THE modification of the constitution process has been forced upon the government because of the lack of commitment by the political parties to register under the requirements of the law.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said this while addressing the nation on television last night.

"There are allegations of fraud and impersonation," he said.

"This does not provide a conducive climate to hold the Constituent Assembly."

Commodore Bainimarama said Fiji could not be delayed by such circumstances.

"This, for me, is very disappointing because it would appear some politicians are still beholden to the politics of old," he said.
