Update: 7:13PM ADHERENCE to the timelines the government has set is critical if the country is to hold elections by September 2014, says Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

"A key aspect of holding the election is to ensure that we have an electoral system that does not allow fraud and that we have public awareness and education about the new electoral system," Cmdr Bainimarama said.

He said they would need at least 15 months to prepare for such elections.

Cmdr Bainimarama made these comments in his national address tonight after expressing his disappointment on the lack of commitment by the political parties to register under the requirements of the law, citing allegations of fraud and impersonation.
