THE Department of Agriculture is giving the public a chance to find out more about the service it provides through a one-week display program at the Government Service Centre in Suva this week.

Members of the public can see for themselves the various services the department offered through its different section, ranging from extension livestock to land and water resources management.

Agriculture technical officer Waisale Taiki said a lot of people visited the various booths at the centre over the last three days.

"We had farmers coming in from as far as the Western Division who were interested in what we had to offer through assistance and services," Mr Taiki said.

"We are basically creating awareness so that people can better understand the different services we provide, especially in the enhancement of food production," he said.

He said the department had assistance available for farmers but there was always a set of criteria that people needed to meet.
