A DISCOUNT-based initiative by the Housing Authority has seen the collection of about $53,000 by the authority for this month alone.
This was confirmed by the authority's chief executive officer Alipate Naiorosui in a government statement released yesterday.
"We are pleased with the positive response from our ground rent customers toward the discount program," Mr Naiorosui said.
He said 700 homeowners took advantage of the 10 per cent ground rent discount, which was offered for March.
He said the nature of the initiative proved attractive.
"If homeowners settle their outstanding balance on their ground rent account, all interest charges will be waived," Mr Naiorosui said.
The discount scheme was introduced this month and has seen the collection of about $53,000. The authority also confirmed that the discount was valid for this month only, however, homeowners who paid their ground rent account in April this year would receive a seven per cent discount.
