Allen Jr fails in ladies event

OLAF Allen Jr failed to get a rare back-to-back win at Fiji Golf Club (FGC) course in Vatuwaqa.

Following his maiden Fiji Amateur Championship win over the weekend, the Suva golfer fell short in the FGC Ladies season opening tournament yesterday.

Allen Jr partnred with his mother Lillian Allen but came second in the Fiji Premium-sponsored two person Ambrose event after scoring a 61 nett.

Sai Yee and Mahmood Buksh reigned supreme with an excellent 59 nett followed by Patricia Punja and Mohammed Rizwan on third with 61.25 nett.

Susau Managreve and Arvin Lal scored a nett 64.25 to get the fourth placing while Mick Greenwood and Hillary Pickering managed fifth with 64.75 nett.

Tournament coordinator and FGC Ladies captain Margie Browne said they had 25 teams competing in the day-long event.

"We had 50 starters divided into teams of two, a man and a woman. The turnout was good and the weather was beautiful for golfing," Browne said.

"We also recorded some great scores from the winners."

Browne said they would start with their Crest Chicken-sponsored monthly medal from next week.

The monthly medal which will run for the next nine weeks will be played in two divisions.

Browne won division one last year
