AUDITORS from the Sugar Cane Growers Council and Sugar Industry Tribunal are finalising preparations for the third cane payment for the 2012 season.
This was revealed yesterday by industrial commissioner Tim Brown.
He said work on getting the payment ready as soon as possible was top priority for industry stakeholders.
"Our auditors are working with auditors from the SCGC and Fiji Sugar Corporation and we should have an announcement made very soon," he said.
SCGC acting chief executive officer Sundresh Chetty said he made a request to FSC for the payment to be brought forward to give growers a chance to celebrate Easter.
FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan told this newspaper in an earlier interview the final cane price for the season would be close to or more than $70 a tonne.
