Update: 5:16PM NO fair-minded person will consider a lenient sentence in an incestral rape case.

Lautoka High Court judge Justice Sithambarampillay Thurairaja sounded these words while sentencing a man to 18 years imprisonment for raping his daughter.

The incident took place on a night in 2006 after the victim had gone to attend Lautoka's Loloma Festival with a relative.

According to the court proceedings, before the end of the festival that night, the accused took the victim home.

The court was informed that later that night, the accused went to the victim's room and touched her private parts.

When she woke up, she found her three-quarter pants and panty pulled down to her knees.

She covered herself and went back to sleep, only to wake up again to find her father on top of her.

Justice Thurairaja sentenced the accused to 18 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 16 years.
