Update: 1:51PM AIR Pacific's brand new Airbus A330-200 is named Island of Taveuni.

"This is a fitting name because of the island's unique position in regards to the international dateline. It is also significant because of Taveuni being the garden island," said outgoing Air Pacific chief executive officer and managing director David Pflieger.

"Taveuni is also home to a number of internationally-renowned tourist attractions."

He said the arrival of the A330-200 marked a new chapter in Fiji's aviation and tourism industries.

"The new aircraft represents an investment of over one billion dollars. Air Pacific is responsible for 60 per cent of tourist arrivals in the country and with the new Airbuses will continue unparalleled service."
