Update: 2:50PM THE Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) celebrated 25 years of existence today at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva.
The
MSG consists of five members Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, the
Solomon Islands and the Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak Socialiste
(FLNKS), a pro-independence movement from New Caledonia.
The chief guest at the event and keynote speaker was Papua New Guineas
first post-independence prime minister Sir
Michael Somare who said that Fiji was a key part of the MSG body.
Also
in attendance was Fiji's Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama
and USP's vice-chancellor and president, Professor Rajesh Chandra.
The celebrations began this morning at the university's Japan-Pacific ICT Centre and will conclude on Wednesday this week.
