A PORTION of the road between Labasa and Savusavu will be closed from 9am tomorrow until Wednesday afternoon for maintenance works.

The portion of the road at Lomaloma will be closed, with disruptions expected to the flow of traffic.

Fiji Roads Authority chief executive officer Neil Cook confirmed that the closure was to allow contractors to carry out emergency remedial works on the site.

Mr Cook said the slip located near Lomaloma Village on Transinsular Rd would be closed with temporary opening for 30 minutes within two-hour durations where light and heavy goods vehicles would be allowed access.

"Repair and maintenance on the road will begin from 9am Tuesday and will continue until the next day but ancillary work will continue even after the road opens," he said.

"During this operation the road will be closed for extended periods. The contractor will be working continuously until such time as the road can be fully-accessible to all traffic with only minor delays.

"Members of the public are advised to allow extra time for their journeys during this important maintenance activity," he said.

Mr Cook said the road had deteriorated during the recent heavy rain thus necessitating repair works that would be carried out by FRA maintenance contractor Blacktop.
