FORMER national bowler Sai Walker led her team to win the Tamavua Fours Mixed Bowling competition yesterday.

Walker's side beat Martin Chute's team by 15-11 in the final at the Suva Bowling Club.

Her team consisted of Mazid Khan, Lisa Khan and Bill Lum On while Chute's side was made up of Joji Ralovo, Elisabeth Mocewai and Mereani Ralovo.

A total of 12 ends were played in the match and it was see-saw battle until the ninth end.

Fiji Bowling Federation president Mazid Khan said both teams were equal in terms of experience.

He said dropped points cost Chute's team the match.

"The match see-sawed with every end and up until the ninth end, Chute's teams was leading," Khan said.

"From there the game changed because his side dropped three points on the 10th end allowing Walker's team to take the lead," he said.

"And then three more points to Walker's team in the 11th end allowed her team to stretch their lead."

The tournament was a build-up towards the Hutson Cup which would be played during the Easter weekend at the Nadi Sports Club.

The defending team, led by Litia Tikoisuva, bowed out of the competition in the pool stages.

"Next weekend's competition would be interesting because men's would play the Fours challenge match while the ladies would have their separate competition.

"This would see the men's teams from each club that would compete in the Hutson Cup play against the other bowlers," Khan said.
