Search for Miss Fiji

Maciu Malo
Sunday, March 17, 2013

THE search for Miss World Fiji 2013 has started in Nadi yesterday.

Leading the search and the casting call is last year's Miss World Fiji Koini Vakaloloma.

The Fijian celebrity is encouraging young girls to attend the casting call to select and identify the next queen to represent Fiji to this year's Miss World pageant at Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia, in September.

Ms Vakaloloma said she was thrilled to see many young girls turning up for the first casting call.

"I am so excited to see the positive responses from the girls here in the west during the first casting call," she said.

"This is the first casting ever for the Miss World 2013 and we are bringing it down to the west in Nadi.

Ms Vakaloloma said every young girl had the right to compete and urged lasses between 17 and 24 years to take a shot at this lifetime opportunity. "We don't want the girls to come and be shy because we are going to help them should they need assistance or guidance when it comes to public speaking." The beauty queen said Fiji, in just its second year of participation, had the potential to be on par with the rest of the world at this world show.

"Fiji has a lot of potential and we want to showcase this potential on the international level," she said. "From my own experience I have learnt a lot and I am humbled to be given a chance to represent Fiji.

"My message to the girls out there is that you only get to live once and you only get this kind of opportunity once.

"When I took up the challenge it helped me to be an advocator, a better public speaker and to highlight issues surrounding our island nation and I cherished these moments. I have also built my international network through my fellow competitors from around the globe," she said
