Store dangerous goods, materials properly

WITH four commercial fires this year alone, the National Fire Authority is again reaching out to business owners to take particular care with hazardous goods or materials they use.

In a statement, chief executive John O'Connor said these goods were in the form of solids, liquids, harmful gases and sometimes living organisms.

"It is important that business owners train their staff on how to handle any form of hazardous material and be aware of the dangers concerning the use of hazardous material in the workplace," he said.

Mr O'Connor said the storage of hazardous material was another important factor, as two of the four commercial fires this year were the result of careless handling and storage of such materials.

"It is important that owners train their staff on how to use these hazardous materials and the material supply data sheet of these hazardous materials must be displayed in the workplace."

So far this year there have been 25 recorded property fire incidents, four of which were commercial property fires.
