TO mark Shivratri, the marriage of Lord Shiva to the goddess Parvati, Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) director Shri Kishan Lal Kanojia visited Radio Gyan Vani Fiji (RGVF).
The director, who was also chief guest at the event, gave RGVF members a holy text as well as other books for their use.
An ICC statement said acknowledging this marriage was important because it "infuses the spirit of devotion and dedication among Hindus throughout Fiji during the month of March".
The handover, which took place at the Shiv Mandir in Samabula, featured close to 40 people turning up to meet the director and celebrate the occasion with dances and songs.
RGVF program co-ordinator Sneh Reddy said the event brought delight to the children.
"I really appreciated the director making time in his schedule to visit us and watch our items," Ms Reddy said.
"He even said the cultural centre was trying to secure some scholarships for the children I teach."
Ms Reddy said the religious texts would help promote cultural understanding among the younger generation.
