ORISI Baleikasavu hopes to focus on discipline and respect this year after being selected president for the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development in Nadave during their school induction on Friday.
Mr Baleikasavu, who hails from Bau, hopes to make a difference at the school and to bring about change.
He said he did not expect to be selected by the staff and management to be school president and that his parents were surprised when told of the good news.
"I am a welding and fabricating program student and I hope to make something out of life when I leave his institute, so that others can follow my footsteps," Mr Baleikasavu said.
"I hope to be a good role model to the students and we hope to learn from each other this year."
He said he also needed the help of the school's vice-president, Netani Gaunitoga.
"I will surely rely on the school council because they will help me make wise decisions this year," he said.
Mr Baleikasavu said he hoped to finish his exams, pass with flying colours and find work after leaving the centre.
