Man in remand

A LAUTOKA man with previous criminal convictions has been remanded in custody after breaching his bail conditions. Appearing before Justice Sitambarampillai Thurairaja at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday, Ronil

Kumar said he was not aware of his court appearance last month. However, Justice Thurairaja told Kumar that he was familiar with the court process because of his past criminal cases. An application for a bench warrant

was submitted by the State when he failed to appear for his case in February. The accused appeared with two other men on larceny charges. The case has been adjourned to July 17.

Duo charged

A BUS driver and conductor have been charged in relation to the death of an 18-year-old student last week. The student died after jumping off the bus last Friday when it did not stop where he wanted

to get off. Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the driver has been charged with negligence while the conductor faces a charge of manslaughter. Insp Sokomuri said the driver and conductor

were in police custody and would appear in the Navua Magistrates Court today. A passing vehicle took the student to Navua Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
