SHARLENE Nand is the new president of Weightlifting Fiji.

Nand becomes the first lady president of the association after being elected during the Weightlifting Fiji annual general meeting at the Fiji Olympic House over the weekend. She succeeded the outgoing Atma Maharaj.

A physiotherapist by profession, Nand is no stranger to WF having being part of the association since 2010.

Nand said she was looking forward to the challenge.

Among the upcoming activities, Weightlifting Fiji is building a High Performance Centre in Levuka and plans on sending eight athletes to the Oceania Youth and Junior Championships that will be held in Brisbane in July.

There are also plans to send 12 athletes to the Pacific Games and the Oceania Championships in Wallis and Futuna in September.

WF will also work with the ministry for the development of its third centre to be based in Kadavu.

Life members of the WF are Vilitate Qumivutia, Vidhya Lakhan and Major General Sitiveni Rabuka.
