A NEW climate change adviser has yet to be selected to strengthen the Melanesian Spearhead Group's (MSG) role in addressing climate change.
This selection is being looked forward to by the Fiji delegation, which hopes the appointment will support climate change initiatives endorsed by the MSG Environment and Climate Change Declaration last year.
"The recruitment will specifically support the initiatives that are in the MSG Environment and Climate Change Declaration, including the Blue Carbon and Green Growth Initiatives," said Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola in a statement issued on Friday.
Once selected, the adviser will be based at the MSG secretariat in Vanuatu.
Meanwhile, MSG heads and senior officials met in Nadi on Thursday to discuss issues pertaining to climate change and the Pacific region.
