Growers want more reps

A PROMINENT sugarcane farmer has urged industry stakeholders to ensure that growers are given adequate representation and consulted in decisions that affect them.

Tavua cane grower Arvind Singh said while many lauded government's reforms and commitment, there were concerns that the growers' views were not being sought when important decisions were made.

"The Sugar Cane Growers Council does not have a board and this means that growers' representation is not there," he said.

"This needs to be addressed because a lot of decisions are being made without the biggest stakeholders in the industry, the growers, being consulted," Mr Singh said.
