A LAUTOKA man who forced his wife to set him on fire is fighting for his life at Lautoka Hospital.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the man allegedly set himself alight after forcing his wife to pour kerosene on his body. He suffered 79 per cent burns.
Insp Sokomuri appealed to members of the community to discuss their differences, especially if they were couples.
"The husband returned home allegedly drunk and a heated argument developed between the two," he said.
"He then allegedly forced his wife to pour kerosene on him and he then lit his trousers with a match."
Meanwhile, Insp Sokomuri said they were still investigating a home invasion in Nadi in which a 15-year-old girl and her 35-year-old mother were struck with a chopper.
He said a suspect was in custody over the incident which occurred at Vuniyasi last Saturday.
"The suspect is in police custody and is being questioned.
"The suspect allegedly removed louvre blades from the kitchen and entered the house before striking the girl and the mother with a chopper."
Insp Sokomuri said the girl and her mother were admitted at Lautoka Hospital.
