THE Health Ministry is urging parents to keep their children warm, keep them away from playing in muddy water and boil all drinking water as the wet weather continues.

The ministry urges parents to take their children to the nearest health centre or hospital if they fall sick during this rainy weather.

Ministry spokesman Shalvin Deo said the ministry had diagnosed cases of flu, chest infections and cough over the past years during such cold and wet weather.

"We are urging all parents to closely monitor their children and keep them away from dirty or muddy water and also make sure they don't drink muddy water," he said.

"Parents need to keep their children warm all the time, especially if they are very young.

"We have seen how parents take their children to hospital two or three days after they develop a cold."

Mr Deo also advised people to boil all drinking water, especially if it is taken directly from a water source.
