Update: 1:59PM PORT MORESBY - Papua New Guinea was hit by two strong earthquakes this morning.
The first quake was recorded at 5.49am in the New Britain Region, with a magnitude of 5.7, the US Geological Survey said. It was 60km deep.
The second, a stronger 6.7 tremor, hit the same region at 11.51am at a depth of 19.5km.
There have been no reports of damage yet and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said there was no apparent threat of tsunami.
