OVER 60 children participated in the Primary Schools Baseball program at Albert Park in Suva last Saturday.

Fiji Baseball Association development officer Inoke Niubalavu said children between the ages of 10 to 15 were part of the program over the past two weeks.

He said the children were teaching the new kids how to play the sport.

"The new kids are learning from the children who have been playing the sport for the past two years," Niubalavu said.

"The experienced kids are the ones from Nadonumai and Raiwai who have been part of the program in the past and now they are ones who are teaching the children," he said.

He said the large number of participants was fast tracking their development process.

"This is just the primary schools program and soon we are targeting to take this program to the communities.

"The ones that are highly likely are from where most of the children are and these are Toorak, Raiwaqa and Namadi Heights.

"The turnouts we have been getting for the past two weeks is really a positive sign for the sport in this country," Niubalavu said.
