A man charged with the death of a 17-year-old student two weeks ago will appear in court today.

He has been charged with a count of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to comply with requirements following an accident, driving motor vehicle without driver's licence and driving motor vehicle in contravention of the third party policy risk.

The man, who allegedly fled after hitting the boy at Waila in Nausori, will appear in the Nausori Magistrates Court.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the man was arrested by police on Friday after information was received from the public.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating the death of an 18-year-old student who died after jumping off a bus in Serua at about 7:45pm on Friday.

The bus driver and conductor were taken into custody by police the same night for questioning.

Insp Sokomuri said it was alleged the driver did not stop the bus, prompting the boy to jump off.

He said a passing government vehicle took the boy to Navua Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical officials.

Yesterday, he said the bus driver and conductor were still in custody at the Navua Police Station.

Insp Sokomuri said police were waiting for the post-mortem examination to be conducted.
