POLICE are carrying out drug raids around the country based on information they receive from members of the public.

And they have warned people involved in marijuana cultivation and peddling that they would be dealt with severely if caught.

On Friday, a team of police officers raided a house in Vatuwaqa, Suva, at about 2pm after receiving information that a person there was dealing drugs.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said police did not find anything at the suspect's house.

"Before police raided the house, he had moved the drugs to the second suspect's house and a raid was carried out there," he said.

Insp Sokomuri said police found 65 sachets and four packs of dried leaves at the second suspect's house.

The government analyst at the Koronivia Research Station confirmed the contents of the sachets and the four packs were marijuana.

Two men are in police custody and will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Insp Sokomuri said police were carrying out drug raids around the country based on information they received.

"We have our sources, people are making use of the 919 and 917 numbers and passing information on drug dealers," he said.
