THE Ministry of Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts together with the Multi-Ethnic Cultural Centre is working towards promoting all aspects of culture for all communities nationwide.
Education permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal yesterday signed the memorandum of agreement for the grant of $156,500 to the six cultural centres in Suva.
This includes Nausori, Nadi, Ba, Labasa and Savusavu.
Dr Lal said the purpose of the grant was to promote the efficiency in the teaching and learning of classical music and dance, minority communities cultures, provision of live cultural performance and the integration of various cultural programs.
"This is an opportunity to promote cultural integration within our society," he said.
"I urge community members to utilise this opportunity to learn and understand about other cultures that exist within our society," he said.
The program offered at the centres will include classical and folk dances, classical and folk songs, tabla (musical drums), harmonium and other musical instruments, arts and craft skills and the provision of live cultural performances.
