THE new mobile phone initiative, M-Women recorded about 5000 new subscribers within 20 minutes of its launch on Thursday.
The launch was a Vodafone ATH Foundation initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, aimed at using mobile technology to respond to questions, issues and challenges faced by women and children in Fiji.
"Mobile communication technology can address Fiji's most pressing humanitarian challenges and it is our responsibility to mobilise our people and technology," said Vodafone ATH Foundation's executive, Ambalika Kutty.
She said 49.9 per cent of their customers were women in Fiji.
On Thursday, the company sent a text to its entire base saying that it was going to launch M-Women and within 20 minutes, it had almost 5000 subscribers.
