* The CFW program provided emergency livelihood support to a total of 1209 recipients — 74 per cent of whom were women. Of these, 343 individuals (84 per cent women) have benefited from the 20-day CFW pilot program implemented between April and June in Rakiraki, one of the flood-affected areas in the Western Division; and an additional 865 individuals (70 per cent of women) have benefited from the second phase of CFW implemented in Nadi in August

* The program primarily targeted women in light of their higher poverty levels and the proven effectiveness of delivering assistance through women. The program substantiated that women make sounder financial choices by spending money earned from the program to meet basic family needs and other priorities

* Training was conducted for representatives from all groups. Agriculture training provided for 168 beneficiaries (68 per cent of women) in partnership with the agriculture extension office and financial literacy training provided for 177 beneficiaries (84 per cent of women) in partnership with NGO Empower Pacific

* After the completion of the program, small-scale community-oriented farming ventures were established in 14 of the 27 communities supported by the CFW program. According to follow-up monitoring in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Evan in early January, five of the 14 communities were able to initiate recovery activities such as land rehabilitation and crop replanting by utilising funds generated from the sale of produce. All five groups are led by a woman

* 26 CFW beneficiaries (24 of who are women) have access to small loans provided by Empower Pacific and have started their own small-scale enterprises
