SCHOOL heads and management in the Northern Division have been advised to use their discretion in sending students home early if they see the need to do so.
Divisional education officer Northern Satya Shandil said school heads and managements were to assess the situation and act accordingly.
Mr Shandil said a number of schools outside Labasa sent their students home early yesterday because of the weather condition as many of them resided in flood-prone areas.
"We have not ordered a closure of schools yet as no such advice has come to us from the Disaster Management Centre at the Commissioner Northern's office," he said.
"We encourage parents to assist their children in their school work at home and take good care of their young ones during this wet weather period."
