THE Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, said yesterday he had sanctioned the filing of charges against Fiji Times Limited and its six directors.

According to a press release issued by Mr Pryde, the charges are in relation to breaches of the Media Industry Development Decree 2010.

Mr Pryde says that the particulars of the charge are that Fiji Times Limited and its directors breached section 38 and section 43 (1) of the Decree by "failing to ensure that all its directors were Fiji citizens permanently residing in Fiji."

Mr Pryde said Fiji Times Limited, together with Mahendra Patel, Kiritbhai Patel, Rajesh Patel, Manu Patel, Bhupendra Patel and Jinesh Patel, its directors, had been charged. He said the matter was listed for first mention on March 22.

A spokesman for the Fiji Times Limited board said the directors were not aware of the charges and were in no position to comment.
